THE 2nd SPIRIT OF STURGIS VINTAGE FESTIVAL

I know not all of our members and readers attend Sturgis Bike Week, but there are some that do. Be sure to support Brittney Olsen's Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Fest if you are heading that way. Brittney is trying her best to keep vintage motorcycle racing alive and well. Your support will help her immensely. -Lisa

Pappy Hoel, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally’s forefather, will have his vision for Sturgis honored with three national half mile championship races and an authentic dirt drag race all based out at the very same track where it all began back in 1938, during a week dedicated solely to motorcycles and their enthusiasts. The organizers of the Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Motorcycle Festival are excited to announce the second annual antique swap meet and motorcycle races will be held this year during the 77th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum will proudly kicks off the Rally with their Pappy Hoel Motor Classic Pro half-mile races on Friday, Aug. 4 and their national vintage half-mile races on Aug. 5 at the Historical Sturgis half-mile racetrack at the Meade County Fairgrounds. Proceeds from museum’s races and events will go directly to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum building fund.

"From touring the beautiful Black Hills on an old bike, to watching the thrillingly fast and exciting vintage racers compete for the Spirit of Sturgis championship title, Sturgis, a world renown motorcycle town was built upon a multifaceted weekend of motorcycle racing and now is the time to bring back and preserve the grassroots racing history of Sturgis, South Dakota," states Brittney Olsen, antique motorcycle racer and founder of 20th Century Racing.

On Monday, August 4th, 20th Century Racing will host the prestigious Spirit Of Sturgis Antique Motorcycle Races. The main racing event will begin at 4 p.m. sharp. Behold before your eyes the oldest motorcycles racing in Sturgis with board trackers from the early 1900s to the Class C hand shift bikes from the 30’s through the 1950s, as well as a vintage big twin class. Following the antique races, fans are invited to join the top finishing champions and their historic racing machines alongside some of our country’s most beautiful antique and vintage motorcycles at The Spirit Of Sturgis After Party and Show. In conjunction with the bike show, Brittney is hosting a special industry party in the pits. Supporters of the 2017 Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Motorcycle Festival will have the opportunity to have an all access pass to the event grounds, races and after parties. To learn more about becoming a supporter visit www.spiritofsturgis.com.

The Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Gypsy Tours, geared towards bikes 35 years or older, will lead up to Tuesday, Aug. 8’s featured main event, the American Flat Track Pro Half Mile Race at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD. There will be two exciting routes to choose from. A scenic paved route or a gnarly unpaved route on gravel. Routes start at the Historical Sturgis Half Mile and kickstands go up at 4 p.m. Sharp. Riders can pre-register for the gypsy tours on www.spiritofsturgis.com.

The morning of Wednesday, Aug. 9, begins with the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall Of Fame Breakfast at the Lodge At Deadwood. The final Spirit Of Sturgis Gypsy Tour will leave from the Lodge At Deadwood, heading west and winding through the beautiful landscape of Wyoming. That afternoon enthusiasts can relax and enjoy watching or taking part in the Spirit of Sturgis Motorcycle Field Games at the Historical Sturgis Fairgrounds. Motorcyclist can test their riding skills on their own bikes while displaying their talent in the slow races, wooden plank riding, close pin drop, cup balancing and inner tube toss games to win prizes and claim the title of field game king or queen!

The Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Motorcycle Festival will wrap up Thursday Aug. 10, with authentic hot rod & vintage motorcycle dirt drags, flag girl and all, down the front straight away on the Historical Sturgis Half Mile Racetrack. The grandstand gates will open to spectators at 10 am and racing will begin at 11 am.

Join us and The Spirit of Sturgis Vintage Motorcycle Festial this year at the Historical Sturgis Half Mile Race Track Located at 1802 Ballpark Road in Sturgis South Dakota for great rides, games, antique swap meet and races on August 7th through the 10th.
