August 7th - Sportster Showdown & The Motorcycles As Art Show

The Sportster Showdown Bike Show & Party is held Tuesday, Aug. 7 at The Gardens at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip's east gate. It’s free to enter and attend and features a mind-blowing collection of customized Sportster models and a hefty dose of memorable mayhem. What kinds of custom motorcycles and art can be created from pure passion and love of the machine? You’ll find out when you experience the stunning collection of masterpieces curated by Michael Lichter for the Sturgis Buffalo Chip's 2018 Motorcycles As Art Exhibition, “Passion Built – Garage to Gallery.” During the exhibit’s historic 10th year at the Buffalo Chip, you’ll get to know the works of a diverse group of over 40 custom builders and artists hand selected by exhibit curator Michael Lichter. This one-time collection will assemble a remarkable group of professional-quality custom motorcycles all built outside of a professional workplace during the builders’ free time. This groundbreaking exhibit proves non-pros have a more powerful voice than ever before, and confirms that it won’t ever be just a small handful of professionals who get to decide where the industry is headed. The exhibition is free to the public, and it's open in the Buffalo Chip’s Event Center 2 -10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4 through Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. Aidan's Ride / Sportster Showdown / Motorcycles As Art

A few events are happening on August 8th in Sturgis that you should partake.

Join Aidan's Ride on August 8th in Sturgis, SD. It begins at Sturgis Guns at 8:00 am for registration and raffle ticket sales. Kick stands up at 9 am for a 90-mile ride through Vanocker Canyon in the Black Hills. There will be a stop for brunch at Murphy’s Pub in Rapid City, SD, and end at up at The Buffalo Chip for the Sportster Showdown where organizers will hold their charity raffle. All proceeds raised benefit the @aidanjackseegerfoundation. Ride ticket: $35.00 for single $50.00 w/passenger (tickets included brunch). Click here to donate, pre-register or sponsor a rider.

The Sportster Showdown is a communal event that celebrates the history, culture, and diversity of one of the coolest bikes in existence, the Harley-Davidson Sportster, with Biltwell, Led Sled, S&S Cycle, ChopCult, Rusty Butcher, Rebel Yell Bourbon, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Metzeler. The show is held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at The Gardens at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip's east gate. It’s free to enter and attend and features awards in five categories including Best of Show.

Experience the creativity, spirit and personal expression of motorcycle history and culture by visiting the Buffalo Chip’s Motorcycles as Art Exhibition Old Iron – Young Blood, Motorcycles & The Next Gen. Get to know the works of an incredible group of custom builders and artists all under the age of 36, each hand selected by exhibit curator Michael Lichter. See how the iron stylings of the past show their influence as these young custom builders display brand new works, all built specifically for this exhibit, that reflect the attitude and attributes of the present. The exhibition is free to the public and opens in the Buffalo Chip’s Event Center 2-10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5 through Friday, Aug. 11, 2017. (Closed for private event Sunday, Aug. 6)

If you're planning on attending Sturgis you should visit Michael Lichter's Motorcycles as Art Exhibit. Entry to the exhibition hall is FREE!

The exhibit is located next to the old EAST gate of the Buffalo Chip (rather than the Crossroads area by the west gate).

Opens Saturday August 6 at 2 pm
Closes Friday August 12 at 10 pm.
Daily hours are 2 pm - 10 pm (except Sunday when it closes early at 6pm)
